2007 ICE Winner Featured

Recently a video crew was in Kansas taping last year's elementary winner, Stacy Wade, in her continued recycling efforts. Her winning ICE entry captured 5,000 pounds of recycled metals - in 2007, she recycled almost 50,000 pounds!!!

WXXI-TV, a PBS station in Rochester, N.Y., showed interested in Stacy's story. WXXI produces “Assignment: The World” (www.atwonline.org) and “Homework Hotline” (see www.homework-hotline.org/hhtoolkit), which are in-classroom news shows. They want to feature Stacy on both shows. They are airing the story both this spring and fall - this will meet their objective of fitting in their spring recycling series while also promoting ICE for next year.

Some quick facts about the shows:

• “Assignment: The World” reaches 7.5 million kids in classroom spread across 12 states and is also broadcast on PBS stations across the country. Its science and social studies focus is geared to 4th-to-8th graders.
• Homework Hotline, in its 17th season, is geared to 4th-to-12th graders in New York State. It provides the tools students need to succeed with home and generally supports academic achievement.
